Blogger Appreciation Award

I’m not usually one to participate in these sorts of chain awards that float around online, but I had a brainstorm about this last night, so now I’m participating! Yay!

For those who don’t know the rules:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Use the award image.
  3. Write a paragraph of something positive about yourself.
  4. Nominate and notify as many bloggers as you wish.

1.

I would like to thank BCBallroomDancer for this. You should follow that link and check her out. Holy cow, has it already been almost three years since she joined our little Ballroom Village? If this is your first time going over there to read, you have got some catching up to do!

I’m glad that she’s still actively dancing, and also taking the time to share her experiences with us. If you’ve never perused anything that she’s written, the really nice thing about her site is that there is so much optimism that can be found there. Even with all the breast cancer-related issues hanging over her dance life, the timbre of her writing has always come across to me as really positive and bright. That’s one of the main reasons I keep going back for more. I hope that she continues posting for many years to come.

(Also, if by chance we ever end up at the same dance party some night, save a dance for me. Anything you’d like. OK, except for Samba… I’m terrible at Samba. I wouldn’t want your first dance with me to show off my tragic White Boy Hips syndrome… 😉 )

2.

No one can blame me for following the rule to the letter, even if I am completely disregarding the spirit of the rule.

3.

I don’t know what kinds of positive things to say about myself that wouldn’t sound weird, so in lieu of that I’m going to tell you three random facts about me that have nothing to do with my dancing life, and I’m pretty sure many people (even people I know in real life) don’t know about me:

A. My middle name is my dad’s first name.

B. Though I have a wide and varied taste in music (which you could tell if you try and guess the song where the titles of my posts come from each week), and spend most of my time listening to songs for dancing, if left to my own devices (such as when driving my car to and from work) I prefer to listen to Progressive Metal.

C. I have a stuffed walrus in my house. I don’t remember where he came from or why I got him in my youth, but I have kept him for all these years for some reason. Also, he makes a good pillow. His name is Tusky, obviously. Right now he is on top of a shelving unit, sitting next to some things that may look familiar…

4.

Rather than actually nominate anyone, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the many seemingly abandoned houses in our little Ballroom Village. These are sorted by date of last update. There are a couple near the bottom that look like the lights may still be on, but I don’t actually know if anyone is home…

Will this shout-out bring any of these people back? I don’t know. I hope that they are all at least still out on the dance floor somewhere, even if they are not updating their sites to tell us all about it. Maybe they will come back to their Ballroom Village homes someday, do a little cleaning to clear off all the dust, and sit out on the front porch to tell us a few stories. Maybe not. We’ll just have to wait and see. I’ll get a pitcher of lemonade ready just in case that ever happens.
